Back and Forth

So, the time has come and we are finally gearing up to begin our next big reno! Almost a year after beginning our last major renovation project, we are ready for a new upstairs bathroom. We're still finalizing our layout (post to come soon) and design, and let me tell you - it hasn't exactly been a walk in the park.

For anyone who has redone a bathroom before, you know that the decision making is not an easy process. There are a ton of tiles too choose from and you have to consider what type of material you want, the colour, shape, etc. For us, choosing our floor tile has been a big decision. Originally, I was thinking a nice simple 12x24 white tile would be great... then I thought maybe grey, but went back on that decision quickly. Unfortunately, I had mentioned it to B briefly, and that kind of stuck with him, leaving us wanting different things. While I was still leaning towards white, B was starting to think that grey was our best bet.

I think we are finally ready to settle on some sort of marble tile. White and grey... the best compromise that we could come up with. Now to search for something that will not bust our budget.

The other decision that we are having a hard time coming to agree upon is the wall colours. While I continue to lean towards my safe blues, B is hoping to see a nice pale yellow on our bathroom walls. I figure, if I can get some white floors, I can happily choose a nice soft, sunny yellow for the walls.

Hopefully over the next few days, and the weekend, B and I can get out and start making some more purchases for the bathroom. Halle needs a tub and FAST!

What do you do when you and your other half cannot agree on elements of a renovation or decorating project?

  2. That's tough! I know exactly what you mean (and have a big ugly couch to prove it!). Bran's style is much more rustic, comfy, and lived-in, while I like things more clean and crisp. We were given our living room set by his parents (it was theirs for 10 years!) and he loves it while I hate it. I've put up with it for 3 years now, and we're finally going to buy a new set this spring. I'll let you know how the decision making goes!!

  3. he usually lets me do whatever I want, because this is our 2nd house and by now he trusts my judgement. however, this is not always a good thing, because I'm left with all the responsibility.

so far this has worked for us. He loves the bathroom, which is 100% me. His only input was that he didn't want small subway tile to lay, as it would have taken him twice as long. beyond practical things like that, design wise I'm on my own.

just think that you can always repaint walls if down the line you agree that yellow has run its course :)

  4. FUN! Hmm...okay. I don't love grey and white floor with yellow walls, to be honest. However, it is just the paint colour I'm not loving - everything else sounds fab!! Lots of great flooring options. Only possible downside to the big marble floor tiles is the slippage factor with Halle. What about a slate coloured porcelaine with a nice texture to it (12x24 or something..) on the floor and then maybe carrera marble subway tile on the walls in the shower? Just an idea!

  6. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it! Agree with some (all) of Janice's suggestions, especially the slip factor. Sounds like you guys are on the right path planning! Usually if the Mr. doesn't like one of my ideas I show him lots of examples and then wait for him to come around...seriously....in 99% of cases he does...and that 1%? He's usually right about those. :)

  7. Congratulations on getting ready to start your next big renovation! My husband usually lets me make the design decisions, but he'll put his foot down if he really does or doesn't like something (like Ashley, we've got the big ugly couch too). We usually just keep going back and forth until we find something we can agree on, which sometimes means going in a completely different direction than we thought. In the end, you want a house that reflects you both, so I think the extra time it takes to find something you both love is worth it. Good luck!

  9. The team has gone through several name changes in their history, first changing their name to the California Angels on September 2, 1965 with a month
still left of the season, in recognition of their upcoming
move to the newly constructed Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim at the start
of the 1966 season. Verlander, who became the league's first 14-game winner earlier in the week, has already thrown five more innings (135 1-3) than he did all of last year.
Bottom Line - The Cubs will go through the
same old problems again this season.

  10. I drop a leave a response each time I especially enjoy a post on a site or if I
have something to add to the conversation. It's triggered by the fire communicated in the

    I was actually moved enough to drop a comment ;
) I actually do have some questions for you if you tend not to mind.

Is it simply me or does it give the impression like a few of these responses look like written by brain dead individuals?
:-P And, if you are writing at other online sites, I'd like to keep up with you.
