Am I Ready for This?

That is the question I've been asking myself over and over again for the last little while. Am I truly ready to move from the world of home ownership, back into the world of renting? Am I ready to live in someone else's home, and have someone else live in our's? At this stage in the game, I guess it no longer matters. We have signed the lease on a rental in B.C, and we're prepping for the big cross country move. So, without further ado - I give you our new home...

We love having this big formal dining room at the front. The windows are huge and look out onto a front lawn that is pretty private, and we get so much light. We don't have a ton of plans for this space yet, but we hope we can make our own dining table. This will come a little later in the getting settled process, as I'm sure we won't be having any huge dinner parties right away. The doors are great too as we can completely close off this room and keep the dogs and Halle (who will be mobile SO SOON), out of this room if we please.

The big seller for us was the big open space kitchen/living area of the home...

I really love how open and bright this space is. A perfect spot for Halle and I to spend our days together. I'm thinking we'll probably want to paint the walls, but for now they are neutral and we can live.

The kitchen and dining area here are great. Granite counters, lots of storage, gas stove top and the oven is built in nice and high... away from tiny hands that will be reaching for everything soon enough. We're also talking about buying another pendant to hang in the kitchen area while we live here - one that we can we take with us when we leave of course.

This is the sun room, which has doors off the living area as well as the dining area. I would definitely like to paint it white... and get some nice curtains on those windows. However, that could get expensive, so we'll play it by ear. I'd like to live in the space before we go out and start buying all kinds of stuff...

Laundry Room - March 31, 2012

Nothing exciting, and looking at those old washer and dryer machines makes me ache that we will be leaving behind our beautiful LG set. We do like that we have direct access from the garage into the house though!

Halle's Room - March 31, 2012

Then we have Halle's room. Just a simple box that we will make into her own little space. Just next to her room, you find the bathroom...

Hall Bathroom - March 31, 2012

Not a bad space - I could do without the dated shower doors, but if that's the worst of it, we can handle it. The vanity is pretty nice, and this will mainly be a place for guests to use.

Master Bedroom - March 31, 2012

Last but not least (on the main floor), our master bedroom. A proper master bedroom too! More than enough room for our desire king size bed! Also comes with walk in closet and en suite bathroom...

Master Closet - March 31, 2012IMG_9968

Then there is our basement space. We don't have the whole thing as there is a small rental down there as well, that mainly resides under our kitchen and living area - but the space that we do have is more than enough...

This is what you see when you head down into our basement. We figure this will be a nice spot to make Halle's play area as it is the only spot that is carpeted in the home. That door that stands open is to a small shared hallway for us and whoever decides to rent the small basement unit. It leads out to our backyard.

Can you say STORAGE! I'm so excited we will finally have a room in the house to keep seasonal decor (and I'm thinking a good place to keep things until we decide what to do with them when we move in) instead of keeping everything stored in the garage.

IMG_9983

The "bonus" room in the basement. Can't really call it a bedroom as it has no window or proper closet. We plan to use this as an office/work out room.

Lastly, our basement guest room. A really great size with a good size closet as well. I'm excited to finally have a proper guest room that we can make a cozy and welcoming place for our family and friends who plan to come out and visit.

So there you have it... our soon to be home! As much as I will miss our home, and as much as their are things I don't absolutely LOVE about this place - it was the best, and it was a place both B and I could see becoming a family home. I'm looking forward to the chance to just decorate... to get away from renovating for a bit, and enjoying life as a family on the beautiful west coast...

  10. Oh wow... it's so big and spacious! I love it! The curved staircase in the middle of the house is amazing and the kitchen is HUGE! I can't wait to see how you put your personal touches on this space. I know it will be hard working with what you have instead of fixing the things you don't like, but I know you'll turn this space into a beautiful home!

  17. Wow, it's HUGE!! I think you're going to love making it your own and I definitely think you're taking the right approach by giving yourself some time to settle in before you start changing things. I know I've wasted a lot of money buying things right away, only to realize later that they weren't really what I wanted/needed.
